Sweden's Jumbo Jet Hostel

Jumbo jet heaven isn’t a nice place. The poor jumbos are torn limb for limb and their parts are used for scrap metal. It’s enough to bring a tear to a glass eye. But this jet has a happier tale, because Swedish entrepreneur Oscar Diös took pity on this abandoned Boeing 747-200 and turned it into the world’s first jumbo jet hostel, able to accommodate 85 passengers.

Its final resting place is at Arlanda airport in Stockholm, where ‘Liv’ (named after Diös’ daughter) sits in prime position over-looking the landing strip. She is resplendent with Wi-Fi, air conditioning and flat-screen televisions. There’s even a deluxe cockpit suite with its own bathroom for those special occasions.

And thus this 30-year old jumbo jet can look forward to another 30-years of service, saved from the deadly junk yard for now. Oh, we do love a happy ending.
